Instruments/Lights/Alarm/Locks - (SAM) Multiple Symptoms

Model Year 2003 up to VIN A159610

1) Central Locking and/or Turn Signal Indicator are Nonfunctional

2) Fuel level Indicator is Inexact

3) Rear lamps are Continuously Lit

4) Antitheft Alarm System Sounds False Alarms

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicle VIN range of any or all of the subject complaints, the Rear Signal Acquisition and Actuation Module (SAM) may need to be replaced. Follow the procedure below to resolve.

Note:
Affected Rear Signal Acquisition and Actuation Module control units (SAM):

002 545 99 01 SAM with Q5 or Q6 status

003 545 00 01 SAM with Q5 or Q6 status

211 545 19 01 SAM with Q5 or Q6 status

211 545 20 01 SAM with Q5 or Q6 status

Disconnect SAM rear control unit (N10/2) for approximately 10 minutes from the on-board power supply.

Note:
In order to disconnect SAM rear, remove the ground cable from the on-board electrical system battery.

Reconnect SAM rear control unit (N10/2) to the on-board power supply.

Note:
If the SAM-rear control unit (N10/2) does not communicate with STAR DIAGNOSIS and fault code 9020 is not stored in the fault memory, then further investigation to the root cause of any or all of the subject complaints must be performed. Refer to the appropriate Technical Group in WIS or STAR TekInfo for additional information. Do not replace SAM-rear for these subject complaints, unless the above fault conditions are met.
