Remove/Install

DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of injury. Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts.


CAUTION: See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts.

1 Remove air cleaner housing

NOTE:

- Remove air cleaner by lifting vertically up and off the cylinder head covers.
- Installation: Slightly moisten the retaining rubbers on the cylinder head covers and the sealing ring of the hot film mass air flow sensor in the air cleaner housing with sliding compound.

2 Remove tie strap at oil dipstick guide tube (2).
3 Unscrew oil dipstick guide tube (2) at the bracket (1,3)
4 Take out the oil dipstick guide tube (2)
5 Unscrew bracket (4) 02 at oxygen sensors at the upper section of the oil pan.
6 Remove bottom part of oil pan (9)
7 Support front axle carrier (6).
8 Unscrew bolts (8) of front axle carrier (6)

CAUTION: The bolts are self-tapping, so the following points should be noted:
- never recut the thread in the side member
- Replace bolts
- Use original screws only
- Bolts must be screwed in perfectly straight
- Do not use an impact wrench
- Observe tightening torque.


9 Lower front axle carrier (6)

CAUTION: While lowering the front-axle carrier ensure that the lower steering shaft (10) does not get distorted. Support the front-axle carrier.

10 Unscrew upper section of the oil pan

CAUTION: Installation: Observe different lengths of screws and diameters of screws: Bolt diagram of oil pan

11 Remove top part of oil pan

NOTE: Remove the upper section of the oil pan with oil dipstick guide tube (2) towards the rear.

CAUTION: Installation: Replace gasket of oil dipstick guide tube (2), in order to preclude leakages.

NOTE: Installation: ay attention to application of sealant to upper section of the oil pan. Information on application of sealant to oil pan.

12 Install in the reverse order.

DANGER:
- Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during startup or while running may result in contusions and burns
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. Wear closed and tight-fitting work clothes. Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.


13 Check engine oil level 2 minutes after switching off warm engine, correct if required.

CAUTION: The vehicle must be positioned horizontally on the wheels, otherwise the measurement is distorted.

14 Run engine and inspect for leaks
15 Inspect headlamp adjustment, correct if necessary.
