In the event of a side impact the left side airbag and window airbag sensor (A53/1) and right side airbag and window airbag sensor (A54/1) detect the accelerations and decelerations acting on the vehicle in the transverse direction. A plausibility check of the values is carried out in the restraint systems control unit (N2/7).

If plausible, a triggering signal is given to the side airbags and window airbags.
