- with CODE (349) E-Call emergency call system
With authorization the service provider grants the authorization to trigger an Emergency-Call emergency call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related.
Authorization is required in the following cases:
^ When starting up the system for the first time
^ When the vehicle owner change
^ After expiration of 3 months since the last authorization
The following is checked via the mobile telephone during the authorization:
^ The vehicle identification number (VIN)
^ The functional availability of the system (position detail)
The Emergency-Call emergency call does not function if the system is not authorized.
The indicator lamp in the SOS pushbutton (S93/3) lights up and an error message appears in the display of the instrument cluster (A1).
Authorization during initial startup
Authorization is accomplished via a telephone call to the E-CALL center
Authorization sequence
The Mercedes-Benz service station notifies the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center (CAC) about the date of startup. The transfer of the authorizing message for the vehicle in question is prepared there. For authorization the transmitter key (A8/1) in the vehicle must be in position "circuit 15R ON". Authorization is accomplished automatically and takes approx. 2 minutes.
In order to guarantee a trouble-free procedure, the following must be avoided during an authorization:
^ An emergency alarm triggering
^ Switching off circuit 15R
^ Putting the Emergency-Call into diagnostic mode
Reauthorization
In the event of change of ownership of the vehicle the Emergency- Call system must be deauthorized before handover so as to avoid misuse. Likewise for deauthorization the Customer Assistance Center (CAC) should be notified.
Trouble-free telephone reception is required for authorization or deauthorization; for this purpose it may be necessary to park the vehicle out in the open.
