Authorizing TELE AID emergency call
With the authorization the service provider (Tegaron company) authorizes to actuate a TELE AID emergency call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related.
Authorization is required in the following cases:
^ When the system is initially started up.
^ In the event of a new SIM (Subscriber Identification Module)
^ The D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is replaced
^ When the vehicle owner changes
^ After expiration of a period of 6 months following last authorization (this procedure is accomplished automatically in the background).

During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
^ The validity of the SIM card installed in the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17)
^ The VIN (vehicle identification number)

If the system is not authorized a TELE AID emergency call is not possible. In this case an emergency call (without emergency call telegram) is transmitted, which does not require authorization. If the system is not authorized, the indicator lamp in the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) lights up. An error message appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).

Misuse of emergency call alarm is subject to punishment.

Procedure when alarm is triggered erroneously
If an emergency call is triggered erroneously, it is not possible to interrupt it even disconnecting the battery. In this case always wait until voice contact is made with police. Then inform police of unintentional actuation to prevent rescue vehicles from starting their rescue service.

Authorization TELE AID telediagnosis
With the authorization, the service provider Customer Assistance Center (CAC) allows the triggering of a TELE AID telediagnosis call (roadside assistance call) and an MB-Info call. The authorization is vehicle and not person-related. If the system is not authorized, a TELE AID telediagnosis and an MB-Info call are not possible. If the system is not authorized, the indicator lamp in the SOS pushbutton switch (S93/3) lights up and an error message appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).

Authorization is required in the following cases:
^ When the system is initially started up.
^ The D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is replaced
^ With a new SIM card (Subscriber Identification Module)
^ When the vehicle owner changes

During authorization a check is accomplished via mobile telephone:
^ The validity of the SIM card installed in the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17)
^ The VIN (vehicle identification number)

To be able to ensure a trouble-free operation, the following should be avoided during authorization:
^ Triggering telediagnosis
^ Changing the circuit 15 status
^ Switching the telephone off
^ TELE AID in the diagnosis mode (via STAR DIAGNOSIS)

For questions concerning authorization, deauthorization, and diagnosis, contact the Customer Assistance Center (CAC) Maastricht.

Authorization procedure for TELE AID emergency call, TELE AID telediagnosis
Ancillary work
^ The salesperson has to carry out the application and delivery process together with the customer.
^ The mechanic must perform the authorization process, i.e. he/ she must ensure that a vehicle with functioning telematics services is handed over to the customer.

Application and application shipping for TELE AID
The salesperson has to fully prepare the TELE AID application form together with the customer and send it. When filling out the application, ensure that the data (i.e., chassis number, vehicle license plate) are completely and correctly entered, otherwise it will not be possible to perform the authorization. It is particularly important to enter the authorization date (access authorization date). After the applications were completed, these are sent to the Customer Assistance Center (CAC) via fax.

Checking delivery date
Authorization of TELE AID is performed on the day entered in the application for access authorization. This date depends on the vehicle's delivery date ex factory. The salesperson coordinates the delivery date with the customer and plans the access authorization date after DaimlerChrysler has confirmed the delivery date.

Authorization can only be carried out on this access authorization date (keyword: authorization on a specific day). The authorization messages are transmitted to the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) by the service centers via the GSM network.

Modifying access authorization date
If the authorization day is postponed, inform Customer Assistance Center (CAC) of the new deadline (phone, fax). To clearly identify the vehicle to be authorized, the Customer Assistance Center (CAC) requires the telematics application data. If the Customer Assistance Center (CAC) is not informed about the modification of the access authorization date, the dealer is not able to perform an authorization (form for changing access authorization date). Before the actual authorization can be carried out, some items are to be observed and verified:
^ The SIM card is installed in the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17)
^ The D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is programmed. If the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is installed ex factory, it is already programmed at the factory. If the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) is a replacement unit, it should be programmed on site
^ TELE AID application was sent (telematics application to service provider (Tegaron company).
^ No SIM card is inserted in the telephone handset (A34).
^ The authorization corresponds to the access authorization day on the telematics application
^ PIN (Personal Identification Number) of the SIM card is known.

The PIN is stored in the letter of the telephone card, which can only be opened when the customer is present.

Authorization sequence
^ Switch on circuit 15R.
^ The display at the telephone handset (A34) informs that no telematics services are available (error message in the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1)).
^ Display on telephone handset (A34) informs that the service mode is currently active; quit this mode.
^ Display on telephone handset (A34) requests PIN of SIM card; enter PIN on telephone handset (A34) (entered numbers are not indicated, only space holders (asterisk).
^ After the entry a message appears in the display of the telephone handset (A34) that the PIN has to be stored, which is imperative for the use of TELE AID.
^ Automatic authorization is now started and completed after 15 minutes. During this time the state of "circuit 15R" is required.

Service mode
The service mode of the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/ receiver (A35/17) is switched on by STAR DIAGNOSIS. It is also switched off by STAR Diagnosis or via the telephone handset (A34). After the authorization the error messages in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) are erased. If the error messages have not been erased after the authorization phase lasting 15 minutes then there is a fault.

After the authorization period change the state of "circuit 15 ON" or "circuit 15R ON" to "circuit 15C" and switch back to "circuit 15 ON" or "circuit 15R ON".

Error limitation
If both error messages are still active both services could not be authorized. If only one error message is active, the corresponding service could not be authorized.

Reading out fault codes.
^ Read out the fault codes of the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) by means of STAR DIAGNOSIS.
^ Compare chassis number stored in the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) with the chassis number in vehicle papers.
^ If errors on the vehicle and on the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17) could be excluded, contact the Customer Assistance Center (CAC).

The Customer Assistance Center (CAC) assist with the authorization of TELE AID. Chassis number and fault codes are required for this purpose. Furthermore, it is checked whether the access authorization date of dealer and Customer Assistance Center (CAC) match. The Customer Assistance Center (CAC) clarifies together with the dealer the error cause for the services (TELE AID emergency call/telediagnosis). Then authorization is performed again.
