Rocker Arm Shaft Removal and Installation
Shown On Engine 112:
Remove
1 Remove camshaft bearing bridge
NOTE: Pay attention to slackening diagram.
DANGER:
- Risk of injury to skin and eyes from handling hot or glowing objects.
- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and if necessary protective glasses.
2 Heat camshaft bearing cap to approximately 150 degrees C
NOTE:
- Heat camshaft bearing cap evenly while ensuring that the temperature dos not rise beyond 160 degrees C.
- Risk of structural changes.
3 Place camshaft bearing bridge on board (4)
4 Remove rocker arm spindle (3)
NOTE: by using a hammer to gently tap the drift punch (1) diameter 15 mm.
CAUTION: If it is tapped to hard, there is a danger of distorting the camshaft bearing bridge and damaging the hollow rocker arm spindle (3).
Install
DANGER:

- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and if necessary protective glasses.
5 Heat camshaft bearing cap to approximately 150 degrees C
NOTE: The camshaft bearing bridge with guide shafts and preassembled rocker arms uniformly and not over 160 degrees C.
CAUTION: Danger of changes in microstructure.
6 Cool the rocker arm spindle (3)
7 Place heated camshaft bearing bridge on board (4)
8 Install rocker arm spindle (3)
CAUTION: Insert the rocker arm spindle (3) in the camshaft bearing bridge by gently tapping with a hammer and simultaneously remove the guide shaft. Ensure that the rocker arms do not get jammed.
9 Align the rocker arm spindle (3)
- In order to align and secure the rocker arm spindle (3), insert two mounting screws for the camshaft bearing bridge through the mounting bores in the camshaft bearing bridge.
NOTE: Oil supply bores of the rocker arm spindle (3) point downwards (direction of the cylinder head).
10 Install camshaft bearing bridge
NOTE: Pay attention to tightening diagram.
