Remove/Install Rear Axle Shaft Flange and Angular Ball Bearing
Shown On Model 220 With Airmatic:
Remove/Install
1 Remove rear-axle shaft (37)
2 Remove rear axle brake caliper
NOTE: Hang the brake caliper to one side with a hook.
3 Remove brake disc
4 Remove brake shoes of parking brake
5 Pull out rear axle shaft flange (10) (wheel carrier installed)
CAUTION: Hydraulic extractor tool: only tighten pressure screw of hydraulic auxiliary press to max. 40 Nm.
NOTE: If a firmly attached rear axle shaft flange (10) cannot be pulled out with 40 N, the wheel carrier (7) should be removed and a steady-state press should be used.
- Remove wheel carrier.
- Pull out firmly attached rear axle shaft flange (10) (wheel carrier removed)
6 Check brake caliper dust shield (112c) for damage and replace if necessary
7 Remove locking ring (9)
CAUTION: Installation: Ensure that the circlip (9) is correctly seated in the wheel carrier (7)
8 Pull double-row angular ball bearing (8) out of wheel carrier (7)
9 Pull bearing inner race off rear axle shaft flange (10)
Inspecting
10 Check lateral and radial runout of rear axle shaft flange (10)
- Permissible lateral runout
- if test values exceeded, replace rear axle shaft flange
11 Install in the reverse order.
