Remove/Install Rear Axle Valve Unit
Shown On Model 215:
DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of injury to skin or eyes from hydraulic fluid spraying out under pressure. Risk of poisoning from swallowing hydraulic fluid.
- Depressurize the hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system. Wear protective clothing and eye protection.
CAUTION: See notes on installing hydraulic lines and hoses.
NOTE: See notes on active body control suspension.
1 Depressurize ABC system by opening bleed screws (57)
CAUTION: The engine must be switched off for at least 5 minutes.
- Open the bleed screws (57) carefully so that the hydraulic fluid can drain slowly to prevent the body from dropping too rapidly.
NOTE: Collect the hydraulic fluid which flows out.
2 Remove return flow pressure reservoir (53)
3 Detach pressure line to left rear suspension strut (FB1) and pressure line to right rear suspension strut (FB2) from ABC rear axle valve unit (Y36/2)
4 Detach pressure line to rear axle pressure reservoir (SP) and pressure line of tandem pump (P) from ABC rear axle valve unit (Y36/2)
CAUTION: Wait 15 minutes after turning off the engine before unscrewing the pressure line of the tandem pump (P) and the pressure line to the rear axle pressure reservoir (SP) to ensure that the ABC system is completely depressurized.
5 Disconnect electrical connectors (53d, 53e) at ABC rear axle valve unit (Y36/2)
NOTE: Installation: The electrical connectors and the connections to the ABC rear axle valve unit (Y36/2) are color-coded and must not be misconnected.
6 Unscrew nuts (53a) and remove ABC rear axle valve unit (Y36/2) with mounting plate.
7 Detach ABC rear axle valve unit (Y36/2) from mounting plate
8 Install in the reverse order
DANGER:
- Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during startup or while running may result in contusions and burns
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself.
- Wear closed and tight-fitting work clothes.
- Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.
9 Fill and bleed ABC system.
