Thermostat: Service and Repair



Remove/Install Coolant Thermostat

Illustrated On Engine 113.992:






Remove/Install

DANGER:
- Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray, Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.
- Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 degrees C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles.
- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.


1 Drain coolant at radiator

CAUTION: See notes on coolant.

2 Remove upper engine cover (2)

NOTE: Detach engine cover on both air cleaner boxes and at bracket toward top.

3 Detach coolant hose (3)

CAUTION: Inspect condition of coolant hose and hose clamp. Install new parts if necessary in order to avoid a loss of coolant.

4 Remove poly-V-belt of compressor (8)
5 Remove poly-V-belt (9)
6 Unscrew bolts of coolant thermostat housing (5)
7 Take off coolant thermostat housing (1) together with coolant thermostat

CAUTION: Installation: Replace sealing ring, in order to avoid loss of coolant.

Inspecting
8 Test coolant thermostat
9 Install in the reverse order
10 Inspect cooling system for leaks
