Remove/Install Rear Axle Center Assembly

DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

CAUTION:
- While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of all aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected
- Installation: See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts.

1 Remove exhaust system as of flange connection
2 Detach propeller shaft (2) from rear axle center assembly (1)

NOTE: Remove flexible coupling

- Loosen fitted sleeves:
- Slacken flexible coupling fitted sleeves on flange.

NOTE: Tie up propeller shaft (2) to one side.

3 Detach rear axle shafts (3) from connecting flange

NOTE:
- Move the rear axle shaft (3) into approximately the horizontal position and push together.
- Remove rear axle shafts (3) upwards at an angle from connecting flange and tie securely to the rear axle carrier (4).
- Installation: Replace self-locking bolts and shims.
- Lightly oil bolts at thread and bolt head contact surface.

4 Support rear axle center assembly (1)
5 Detach rear extension bracket (5) from rear axle carrier (4), for this purpose, unscrew bolts (6)

NOTE: The rear axle center assembly can only be removed/installed with the rear extension bracket (4) fitted.

6 Detach front extension (7) from rear axle center assembly (1), for this purpose, remove bolted connection (8)
7 Lower and remove rear axle center assembly (1)
8 Detach rear extension bracket (5) from rear axle center assembly (1)

NOTE: If necessary.

9 Replace breather (9) of rear axle center assembly (1)
10 Install in the reverse order
11 Check rear axle center assembly oil level, top up if necessary.
