GF32.50-P-0001A Active Body Control (ABC) Function

GF32.50-P-0001A Active Body Control (ABC) Function

Model 215, 220 with CODE (487a) Active Body Control (ABC)

Active Body Control is an active suspension and damping system. The complete static and dynamic supporting part is taken over by four sping struts located at the wheels. A dynamically adjustable hydraulic cylinder (plunger) is fitted in series with a coil spring and in parallel with a shock absorber. Through displacement the hydraulic cylinders produce forces which counteract the wheel movements.

ABC includes the following additional function:
- The level adjuster enables the vehicle level to be raised/lowered manually and automatically depending on vehicle speed.
- The level control controls the vehicle at the front and rear axle according to the driving/load condition in each case and keeps it constant.

Advantages
Greater driving safety and ride comfort through:
- Adaptation of suspension and damping to road quality and driving style.
- Significantly improved comfort in terms of vibrations
- Reduced vertical body movements due to road surface influences.
- Reduce body roll and pitch motions.
- Lower air resistance and therefore lower fuel consumption.
- Less lift at the front axle.

Individual adaptation through:
- Raising the vehicle level in 2 stages for poor road conditions or garage entrances.
- Facility for adjusting 2 characteristics for a comfort-oriented or sporty driving style.

Driver information through:
- Display of the raised vehicle level stages and the sporty characteristics via warning lamps in the switches.
- Warning of too low a vehicle by the multifunction display in the instrument cluster.

Function Survey
The corresponding functions of the hydraulic control circuits are controlled by the electrical/electronic components.

The ABC control module receives input signals from the following components:
- ETC control module (via CAN)
- ESP control module (via CAN)
- Engine control module (via CAN)
- DI control module (via CAN)
- Comfort and sports switch (via CAN)
- Level control switch (via CAN)
- Left front SAM control module (wake-up signal)
- 3 body acceleration sensors
- 2 front axle level sensors
- 2 rear axle level sensors
- 1 suspension strut motion sensor for each spring strut
- 1 pressure sensor
- 1 longitudinal acceleration sensor
- 1 lateral acceleration sensor
- 1 oil temperature sensor
- Voltage supply and ground

The input signals are processed into output signals for the following components in the ABC control module:
- 4 control valves
- 4 shut-off valves
- 1 suction restrictor valve
- Multifunction display in instrument cluster
- Indicator lamps in the switches: comfort and sport, level control

The ABC control module decides which control functions must be controlled based on input signals.
