AR15.40-P-5011I Checking Charging Current of Generator

Test charge current of generator

Connection Diagram:

Inspect
1 Prerequisites for testing generator
2 Check regulation voltage of generator
3 Connect multimeter (003) with DC clip-on probe (065) according to connecting diagram
- See "Commercially Available Tools" below.

4 Connect volt-ampere tester with load resistor (079) according to connection diagram
- See "Commercially Available Tools" below.

DANGER:
- Risk of accident. Accidents may result if the vehicle starts off unintentionally with the engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

5 Start engine
6 Test charge current at fast engine revs; apply load to battery (G1) for this step with volt-ampere tester with load resistance (079)

NOTE: Vary load resistance long enough until the maximum load current is achieved; when this is done, the regulating voltage must not drop below 12.7 V.

- See "Test values for generator" given below.

- Charging current below specified value, Check diodes of generator.

7 Switch off engine
8 Disconnect multimeter (003) with DC clip-on probe (065)
9 Disconnect volt / ampere tester with load resistor (079).
