Outside Temperature Display Sensor: Description and Operation

Position
The outside temperature display sensor is in the bumper on the left-hand side.

Task
Records outside temperature as electrical value
- far displaying the outside temperature in the instrument cluster (A1) and
- Controlling various functions that depend on the outside temperature.

Design
The sensor is housed in a casing made from high quality plastic that is clipped to the vehicle.

Function
The outside temperature display (B14) is a temperature-dependent resistor with a negative temperature coefficient (NTC): As the temperature increases the resistance value becomes smaller.

The external temperature display sensor (B14) is read in by a control module that sends the measurement as a message on the interior CAN.
