The overhead control panel control unit (N70) has the following purpose:
- Control of dimming functions of the inside rearview mirror (A67) and the outside rearview mirror
- Control of light functions of the interior lights
- Reading of integral switches and sensors:
- Sliding/tilting roof switch (N70s1)
- Rear dome lamp switch (N70s2)
- Dome lamp switch (N70s3)
- Left front reading lamp switch (N70s6)
- Right front reading lamp switch (N70s7)
- In-car temperature sensor (N70b1)

- Reading of sensors (on the windshield):
- Rain sensor (B38)
- Automatic light switch daylight sensor (B32/1)
- Rain/light sensor (B38/2), as of 9/1/02

- Sliding roof actuation
- Reading data of the rear window antenna amplifier module (A2/12) and transmitting data on CAN interior
- Actuation of the integral front dome lamp (N70e1)
- Reading and actuating of components of the inside rearview mirror unit (A67):
- Left reading lamp (A67e1)
- Right reading lamp (A67e2)
- Ambient lamp (A67e3)
- Sensor for automatic dimming mirror, forward(A67h1)
- Sensor for automatic dimming mirror, backward (A67h2)
- Motor vertical adjustment (A67m1)
