Rear Rubber Bushing, Rear Axle Mount - Removal and Installation






DANGER:
- Risk of fatal accident from vehicle slipping or toppling off the lift platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


CAUTION:
- While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of all aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be reduced.
- See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts.


1 Remove rear wheels
2 Remove rear reinforcement bridge (35)
3 Detach rear exhaust rubber mount at rear muffler (105)
4 Unscrew bolts for propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a)
5 Detach rear propeller shaft (106) from rear axle center assembly.

NOTE:
- Flexible coupling remains on propeller shaft.
- Installation: Connect rear propeller shaft to rear axle center assembly.

6 Slacken flexible coupling fitted sleeves on flange.

NOTE: Tie up propeller shaft to one side.

7.1 Detach level sensor control rod (120a) from torsion bar link
- Vehicles with AIRmatic

7.2 Remove level sensor control rod (122a) from both spring links.
- Vehicles with active body control (ABC)

8 Use assembly attachment, pit hoist or floor jack to support rear axle under final-drive unit.
9 Remove rear axle mounting bolts at rear (1d)

CAUTION: Installation: recut thread on frame floor with tap.

10 Carefully lower rear axle

CAUTION: Take care to avoid trapping brake cables and lines.

11 Remove rear rubber mount for rear axle mount (1b)

NOTE: Always replace both rear rubber mounts.

12 Install in the reverse order.
