Remove/install oil pan

Remove/Install

DANGER:
- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

CAUTION: See notes on self-locking nuts and bolts

1 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling
2 Drain and collect engine oil

NOTE: Installation: Replace sealing ring of oil drain plug.

3 Unscrew bolts (3) of front engine mount (4) at front axle carrier.
4 Fit on engine supporting frame.
5 Raise engine

CAUTION:
- Ensure that the rear of the engine does not touch the body.
- Do not over-tension coolant lines.


6 Unscrew bolt of steering coupling at bottom of steering gear

NOTE: Installation: Use new bolt and nut.

7 Support front axle carrier with pit or assembly lift and transmission platform.
8 Remove front axle beam

NOTE: Lower front axle beam. Do not disconnect lines of power steering pump.

9 Disconnect electrical line at oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality) (B40)
10 Remove oil pan bottom section (2)
11 Remove oil pipe (5) of oil dipstick

NOTE: Unscrew one bolt at cylinder head cover.

12 Remove oil pan top section (1)

NOTE:
- Observe different bolt lengths and bolt diameters.
- Take out oil pan top section (1) in direction of travel to the front; for this step, if necessary rotate crankshaft slightly and lower engine slightly.

NOTE:
- Information on application of sealant to oil pan
- Installation: Clean sealing surfaces, apply sealing compound to sealing surfaces with a bead of 2.0 mm ± 0.5 mm. The sealing compound must be applied within 10 minutes.
- The silicone bead must not be spread.Sealing compound, Loctite 5900.

13 Install in the reverse order.
14 Perform chassis alignment check.
