M/T - Assembly Precautions/Recommendations

Date: September 3, 2002

Order No.: P-B-26.50/01

Supersedes:

Group: 26

SUBJECT:
Model 203 and 170, Model Year 2001 to Present Manual Transmission 716.6

When attaching the assembled syncromesh unit for 1/2 gear on the main shaft, ensure that the sliding sleeve is aligned properly. The marking groove should point downward (in the direction of 2nd gear).

With preassembled syncromesh units, it is only necessary to pay attention to the alignment of the sliding sleeve, because the syncromesh element is symmetrical and can therefore be installed in either direction. If the sliding sleeve is installed rotated in the wrong direction, the transmission may jump out of 1st gear or shifting problems may occur.

Further instruction about the assembly of the mainshaft can be found in WIS under document number AR26.50-D-0420-15E.
