AR46.30-P-0100PA Checking Oil Pressure of Power Steering Pump



Checking Power-steering Pump Pressure

1 Remove air cleaner
2 Open reservoir cap and extract oil from supply reservoir (30a) of power steering pump
3 Unscrew bracket (arrow) for high-pressure line (30i) on air conditioning compressor
- Model 203 fitted with air conditioning

4 Disconnect high-pressure line (30i) to power steering pump
5 Attach connection fitting (040a) to high-pressure line (30i)
6 Attach connection hose (040c) to power-steering pump
7 Connect test unit (039) between connecting pipe (040a) and connecting hose (040c)

CAUTION: Make sure that the test device is not impeded by any moving parts such as ventilator and poly-V-belt.

8 Fill up reservoir

DANGER:
- Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury from bruises and burns if you hold your hand into engine when it is started or when it is running
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving off by itself
- Wear closed and tight-fitting work clothes
- Do not grasp hot or rotating parts


9 Engine ON
10 Increase engine speed to approx 1000 rpm
11 Close throttle valve (039a) and check the maximum operating pressure

CAUTION: Test should only be conducted briefly to ensure that the oil temperature does not rise beyond its permitted level.

12 Engine OFF
13 Extract oil from power steering pump supply reservoir
14 Connect tester (039)
15 Remove connecting pipe (040a) and connecting hose (040c)
16 Check O-ring on high-pressure line (30i) and replace if necessary
17 Connect high-pressure line (30i) to power steering pump
18 Screw bracket (arrow) for high-pressure line (30i) onto air conditioning compressor
- Model 203 fitted with air conditioning
19 Fill power steering pump and bleed
20 Inspect power-steering pump for leaks
21 Install air cleaner
