Function
The electronically controlled cooling, heating and ventilation system of the comfort automatic air conditioning (C-AAC) achieves the desired interior temperature as rapidly as possible or maintains it constantly throughout:
- Cooling of the air by means of the evaporator.
- the heating system heat exchanger heating the air.
- Heating mode
The in-car temperature sensors (N22/7b1, N70b1) measure the respective interior temperatures.
In addition the outside temperature is also determined by the outside temperature indicator temperature sensor (B14), the humidity is determined by the C-AAC multifunction sensor (B31) and the intensity and direction of the solar radiation is determined by the C-AAC sun sensor (4 sensors in total) (B32/2). The electronic control of the comfort AAC pushbutton control unit (N22/7) compares the various measured values with the temperature preselected at the temperature pushbuttons.
Depending on requirements, the electronic circuit regulates the comfort automatic air conditioning (C-AAC), by altering the position of the blend air flaps using the left blending air flap actuator motor (M2/6) and right blending air flap actuator motor (M2/7) or it holds each setting at a constant value.
- Cooling mode
The evaporator temperature sensor (B10/6) measures the air temperature at the evaporator's air outlet while the in-car temperature sensors (N22/7b1, N70b1) detect the respective interior temperature.
Depending on requirements, the electronic circuit alters the settings of the comfort automatic air conditioning (C-AAC) by actuating the refrigerant compressor or maintaining the particular setting constant.
The in-car temperature sensor (N70b1) is installed in vehicles up to 31.5.02 and as from 1.6.05 in the overhead control panel control unit. On vehicles between 1.6.02 up to 31.5.05, the interior temperature is determined solely by the in-car temperature sensor (N22/7b1), which is integrated into the comfort AAC control and operating unit (N22/7).
