Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair



AR83.55-P-5300PR Remove/Install Refrigerant Compressor
- with CODE (580a) Automatic air conditioning
- with CODE (581b) Convenience automatic air conditioning

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with liquid refrigerant.
- Do not carry out any welding work on the closed air conditioning system or in the surrounding area. No smoking or open flames. Wear eye protection and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.


CAUTION: Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work.

1 Remove drier cartridge

CAUTION: Installation: after the refrigerant circuit is opened replace drier cartridge.

- Observe additional oil quantity after replacing parts
Correct oil level in air conditioning system after replacing parts.

2 Remove air cleaner housing (3)
3 Remove charge air duct (4)
4.1 Remove poly V-belt (6)
4.2 Detach poly V-belt of base drive (6) and attach at engine
- Engine 111.555

NOTE:
1. Pivot stud bolt (7) on idler puller (8) counterclockwise (arrow).
2. Installation: Lock tensioning pulley with pin or drift (9).

- Inspect poly V-belt (6), replace if necessary.
Remove poly-V belt (6).

5 Disconnect AC compressor connector (A9x1)
6 Unscrew screws (1)
- Bolt for intake line on refrigerant compressor: 20 N.m
- Bolt for pressure line on refrigerant compressor: 20 N.m

7 Remove intake and high pressure lines (11, 10) and lay down to side.

CAUTION: Plug openings.

CAUTION: Installation: Replace O-rings. Moisten threads and O-rings with compressor oil.

8 Unscrew screw (2)
- Bolt for refrigerant compressor on bracket: 20 N.m
- See "Special Tool - Torx bit set" given below.

9 Remove lower engine compartment lining

NOTE: Front engine compartment paneling.

10 Unscrew bolt (2a)
- Bolt for refrigerant compressor on bracket: 20 N.m
- See "Special Tool - Torx bit set" given below.

11 Remove refrigerant compressor (A9)

NOTE: Remove refrigerant compressor (A9) upward between engine and electric fan.

CAUTION: Installation: When replacing AC compressor slowly relieve pressure from new AC compressor.

12 Correct oil level in AC compressor (A9)

CAUTION: If refrigerant compressor (A9) is replaced due to interior damage: Replace intake and pressure lines with sealing rings.

- Replace expansion valve.

13 Install in the reverse order.
