Camshaft: Testing and Inspection
Checking Basic Position Of Camshafts
Removal, Installation
1 Remove cylinder head cover (11)
NOTE: Installation: pay attention to leaktightness of cylinder head cover. Check that gasket of cylinder head cover is correctly seated.
Checking
2 Position piston of cylinder 1 to 20 degrees after ignition TDC
NOTE: Rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine. The 20 degrees marking (arrow) on belt pulley/vibration damper (95) must be alined with the positioning edge (A) on the timing case cover. The cams of the inlet camshaft (78) and exhaust camshaft (77) of cylinder 1 are positioned up at an angle.
3 Check basic position of the camshafts
- Check whether positioning pin (01) can be inserted through the hole of one of the two camshaft bearing caps 1 or 6 into the positioning hole of the inlet or exhaust camshaft.
NOTE:
- Due to the chain stretch the value of the inlet camshaft must be between 20 degrees and 30 degrees, and that of the exhaust camshaft between 25 degrees and 35 degrees after TDC.
- If incorrectly fitted (chain offset by 1 tooth), the value is changed by about 20 degrees crank angle.
- If necessary, after checking, Set basic position of the camshafts
- Engine with camshaft adjustment: the stops around the circumference (arrows) on the inlet camshaft sprocket (75) must be in "retarded" position (stop at the recesses of the flange shaft in direction of rotation of camshaft) (arrow).
4 Install in the reverse order.
