Power Mirror Motor: Description and Operation
Location
The motors for adjusting the mirror glass and the mirror housing are located in the housing for the left electrically adjustable and heated outside rearview mirror (M21/1), right electrically adjustable and heated outside rearview mirror (M21/2).
Design
The motors used for adjusting the mirrors are DC motors, which have a potentiometer installed at their axles for determining position.
The motors used for folding-in the mirrors (for Code 500b) are not equipped with a position detection function.
Function
They are driven by the left front1 door-control module (N69/1) for the left-hand outside rearview mirror and the right front, door-control module (N69/2) for the right-hand outside rearview mirror. The motors rotate clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on the drive voltage polarity.
Task
The mirror adjustment motor up and down (M21/1m1) and the mirror adjustment motor inwards and outwards (M21/1m2) in the left electrically adjustable and heated outside rearview mirror (M21/1) enable the left-hand outside rearview mirror glass to be adjusted both horizontally and vertically.
The mirror adjustment motor up and down (M21/2m1) and the mirror adjustment motor inwards and outwards (M21/2m2) in the right electrically adjustable and heated outside rearview mirror (M21/2) enable the right-hand outside rearview mirror glass to be adjusted both horizontally and vertically.
With Code 50Db:
The mirror folding.in motor (M21/1m3)/(M21/2m3) enables the housing for the left-hand and right-hand outside rearview mirrors to be folded in (garage position) and folded out (driving position).
