GF82.85-P-2006PJ Switch On/off Behavior, Function

MODELS 203 up to 23.4.042

- with CODE (498) Japan version

Activating navigation
If the driver's door is opened the navigation is activated automatically via the controller area network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) . This procedure may be accompanied by a little noise from the DVD drive integrated in the navigation processor if the drive contains a Digital Versatile Disk (DVD). The display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) remains switched off. If no status change such as "Circ.15C ON" or "Circ. 15R ON" occurs at the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73), the navigation remains activated for t = 30 min.

Activating the overall system
All other subsystems are activated by inserting the transmitter key (A8/1) into the EIS control unit (N73) in position 0 (circuit 15C ON).

Moving the transmitter key (A8/1) to position 1 (circ.15R ON) switches the display on. This works, provided that the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched on when the transmitter key was last removed (A8/1). The system which was active before it was last switched off (e.g. radio) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed. If the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) was switched off for longer than t = 30 minutes, a warning containing general information on the use of the system is displayed.

Conduct when pushing "ON" button
Even if the transmitter key (A8/1) has been removed, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) can be switched on by pressing the "ON" button. All functions are then available for t = 30 minutes

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) automatically switches itself off after these 30 minutes. If the unit has switched itself off it can be switched on again by pressing the "ON" button, which starts another 30-minute period of operation.

Switch off characteristics
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched off when the transmitter key (A8/1) (circuit 15C OFF) is removed. The navigation system run-on time of t = 30 min starts (standby). During this period all the important locating parameters are stored. Moreover the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is always in "stand-by" when the CAN-B is active.

Switch off characteristics at undervoltage
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) continuously monitors the battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system will act as follows:

If the battery voltage drops below 11.5 V (battery warning limit) a message appears in the display which requests the engine to be started If the engine is not started, a further warning follows after t = 3 min saying that 10 seconds remain to start the engine before the system switches off. In this case switching on the engine prevents the system from being automatically shut down. However, if the system has switched itself off and the voltage increases to more then 11.5 V again, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) does not automatically switch itself on again.

If a system has been shut down it can still be switched back on again manually. The warning procedure then takes place again until the fault has been remedied.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is automatically put into a defined standby condition in which only the battery voltage is monitored.

In addition to this the current operating status is stored. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) cannot be operated or accessed using STAR DIAGNOSIS when it is in this condition. Communication with external components does not take place.
