Replacing Front Top Covering
Preceding:
Hardtop removed.
NOTE: Install top covering with MB special glue, part number 000 989 92 71.
Soft top unlock at front
Recessed handle (1), trim (2) remove
Headliner (3) (previous version with retaining rail on corner brace) remove
Headliner (3) (modified version without retaining rail on corner brace) allow to hang downward
Covering strip (arrow) on corner brace (previous version) detach
Screws (4) on corner brace screw out
Soft top move to vertical position
Rail (5) at front of soft top frame remove
NOTE: Mark position of rail (5).
Seal (6)
pull off
NOTE: With rail (7) screwed on from outside
Rail (7) (previous version, screwed on from outside) remove
Rail (7) (modified version, screwed on from inside) remove
Velcro strip (8) open
Seal, rail and corner bracket on B-pillar remove
Top covering detach at B-pillar.
Screw (9) screw out.
Tensioning cable (10) at front of soft top frame unhook.
Tensioning cable at side of top covering pull out toward rear.
Cloth holding rail fasten with screws (11).
Soft top lock completely.
Covering strips (12) detach from bows and front of soft top frame.
Top covering press off of corner brace with plastic wedge.
Soft top unlock at front
Top covering detach from soft top frame toward front.
Bracket (13) detach from top covering.

Hook (cable installation):
Bow (13) position on top covering
Top covering glue into bow (13, observe arrows)
NOTE: When gluing into the bow (13), pay attention to brace version (item 1, item 2).
Top covering glue into bow (13) up to center (on brace item 1)
Top covering glue into bow (13) completely (on brace item 2)
Damper (16) glue into bow (13)
Headliner (3) glue into bow (13) up to center
Sealing cord (22), part number 005 989 12 7110 insert into bow (13) above mounting holes
Top covering position on corner brace with bow (arrows)
Screws on corner brace screw in
NOTE: Push damper (16) forward while tightening screws.
Tensioning cable (10) pull into top covering with hook (shop-made)
Tensioning cable (10) hook onto soft top frame and press down tab (arrows)
Covering strips (17) glue on from front side of top covering around edges inward on soft top frame
NOTE: Position lateral seams for center brace as well as front lateral seam approx. 3 mm on edge on top frame (figure at bottom left).
Top covering glue laterally onto top frame at front
NOTE: Glue top covering on without air inclusions in bead on top frame (arrows).
Soft top move to vertical position
Covering strips glue onto inside of top frame
Soft top lock completely
Screw (9) on corner brace screw in
Covering strips (12) on braces and top frame glue on
NOTE: The front brace must be located in the correct position in relation to the lateral guide arm.
Position: brace-guide arm:
Rubber strap (18) pull out of top covering to third hole, glue onto cloth holding rail (B-pillar) and screw in screw (19)
Rubber strap cut off at corner
Sealing cord, part no. 005 989 12 7110 press on (arrow)
Top covering glue onto cloth holding rail (B-pillar)
NOTE: Glue on covering strip (20) under tension so that the border makes contact with the rail (21, arrow) without a gap.

Top covering cut out in area of screw heads (arrows)
Screws screw out (arrows, figure at bottom right)
NOTE: Center screw serves for fastening the cloth holding rail and should no longer be screwed out.
Soft top move to vertical position
Rail (21) and corner bracket install on pillar
NOTE: If wind noises occur at the B-pillar, install sealing cord, part no.005 989 12 7110, to seal between rail (21) and top covering.
Seal instal in rail (21)
Soft top put down into soft top compartment
Rail (5) position at markings and install in soft top frame at front
Soft top lock completely
Transition of seal (arrow) at A-pillar check, correct seal, if required, and glue into corner on soft top frame. Hold seal with special tool, part no. 129 589 00 37 00
Soft top move to vertical position
Rail (7) and seal install on top side of soft top
Velcro strip (8) close, correct, if required, because no sagging points should be present in this area on the top covering when the soft top is closed
Soft top lock completely
Transition of seal at A-pillar and B-pillar check, correct, if required
Covering strip (arrow) glue onto corner brace (version 1)
Soft top unlock at front
Headliner install
Trim and recessed handle install on soft top frame
Soft top motion check, adjust, if required
Rain test perform
