Check Charging Current of Generator

Inspecting
1 Check regulation voltage of alternator
2 Connect multimeter (003) with DC clip-on probe (065) according to connection schematic
Refer to Commercially Available Tools below

3 Connect volt / ampere tester with load resistance (079) according to connection schematic
Refer to Commercially Available Tools below

4 Read off charging current on data plate of alternator (G2)

DANGER: Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury from bruises and burns if you hold your hand into engine when it is started or when it is running.

- Secure vehicle to prevent it moving off by itself. Wear closed and close fitting work clothes. Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

5 Start engine
6 Check charging current

NOTE: Whereby the battery (G1) is loaded with load resistance (003) with the volt / ampere tester.

- Change the load resistance until the maximum charging current is reached; in this case, the control voltage must not fall below 12.7 V.
- Engine 104, 111, 112, 113, 119.
- Engine 602, 604, 605, 606, 611, 612, 613.

Charging current below desired value:

1. Check alternator diodes.
2. Replace alternator
(if diodes are defective).

- Engine 104,111, 602, 604, 605, 606, 611 upto 31.5.99.
- Engine 112, 113, 119.
- Refer to Test Values For Alternators below.

- Engine 611 as of 1.6.99, 612, 613.
- Refer to Test Values For Alternators below.

7 Switch off engine
8 Remove multimeter (003) with DC clip-on probe (065)
9 Disconnect volt / ampere tester with load resistor (079)
