Power Steering Pump: Testing and Inspection
Checking Oil Pressure In Power Steering Pump
1 Extract oil from supply reservoir of power steering pump
2 Clamp off feed line from reservoir
3 Unscrew high-pressure expansion hose (30i) from power steering pump
CAUTION: On vehicles with tandem pump, the tester must not be connected to the radial piston pump
4 Connect tester (039) between power steering pump and high-pressure expansion hose (30i)
5 Remove clamp from feed line from reservoir
6 Top up reservoir
DANGER:
- Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running Risk of injury with bruises and burns if you hold your hand in the engine when it is being started or while it is running
- Secure vehicle to prevent it moving off by itself
- Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes Do not touch hot or rotating parts
7 Engine ON
8 Increase engine speed to approx 1000 rpm
9 Close throttle cock (70b) and check maximum service pressure
CAUTION: Perform the test quickly to prevent the oil temperature from rising too high
10 Engine OFF
11 Extract oil from supply reservoir of power steering pump
12 Clamp off feed line from reservoir
13 Disconnect tester (039)
14 Screw high-pressure expansion hose (30i) onto power steering pump
15 Remove clamp from feed line from reservoir
16 Fill and bleed power steering pump
17 Check power steering pump for leaks
