Checking And Adjusting Front Axle Camber And Caster

1 Observe general information on chassis alignment check.
2.1 Check vehicle level at front and rear axles

NOTE: With Mercedes-Benz measuring device.

2.2 Check vehicle level at front and rear axles with electronic clinometer and adjust if necessary

NOTE: With electronic clinometer.

3 Check camber and assign to tabular value
- Camber at vehicle level
- Permissible difference in the front axle camber between the right and left sides of the vehicle

4 Check caster and assign to tabular value
5 Cover all attached parts remaining in vehicle (area to be repaired)

DANGER:
- Risk of injury with trapped or crushed fingers when working on springs or spring-loaded components
- Use only approved tensioning devices, additionally shield off hazardous area if necessary
- Inspect special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection)
- Wear protective gloves


6 Clamp front spring
7 Install repair bolt

NOTE: Screw on nut from repair kit (19b) as far as it will go, but do not tighten it so that the rubber mount on the wishbone can turn when the suspension is compressed and rebounded

8 Unclamp front springs
- Lower vehicle and settle the suspension by pulling and pushing firmly several times
9 Recheck vehicle level at front axle after adjusting the camber and caster
- The vehicle level must correlate with the dimension established on the initial measurement
10 Tighten nut from repair kit (19b)
11 Adjust rear axle toe
12 Adjust front axle toe
