AR46.10-P-0200A Remove/Install Clock Spring Contact
REMOVAL
1. Remove steering wheel
- Front wheels in straight-ahead position.
- Steering wheel lock engaged.
2. Remove cover below instrument panel.
3. Disconnect horn/airbag clock spring contact connector (A45x1) and expose cable
4. Disconnect FAN relay module clock spring contact connector (A45x2) and expose cable
5. Only unscrew fixing bolts (32h) until the horn/airbag clock spring contact (A45) can be removed.
- The fixing bolts simultaneously serve as an anti-rotation device or assembly aid.
6. Carefully remove horn/airbag clock spring contact (A45) from jacket tube
7. Ensure correct seating of locking ring (70h).
INSPECTION
- Models with with electrically adjustable steering column, if there are complaints of a grinding noise, check distance (b) between locking ring (70h) and bracket (85).
- Dimension "b" on upper bracket on jacket tube: 30.00 to 30.5 mm.
- Check horn/airbag clock spring contact (A45) for damage
NOTE:
- The upper (32f) and lower sections (32g) of the contact spiral are clipped together and can only be separated due to the effect of excess forces or defective assembly. If this is the case, wind the contact spiral up carefully and assemble with care, not pinching or kinking the spiral (32e).
- Do not use oil or grease
INSTALLATION
Install in reverse order, noting the following:
a. Tighten clamping screw for upper bracket on jacket to: 5 Nm.
b. Push on horn/airbag clock spring contact (A45) as far as the stop; the recess must align with the fixing lug (arrows).
c. If the horn/airbag clock spring contact was rotated, e.g. when the steering coupling was removed, then adjust center position of horn/airbag clock spring contact.
