Replacing Center And Rear Muffler

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from ignition. Risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel. Risk of injury as a result of fuel coming into contact with skin and eyes.
- No fire, naked flame or smoking.
- Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
- Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

1 Remove exhaust system from flange connection

NOTE: Installation: Model 202.028 E 36 AMG: pay attention to installation position and suspension of rear muffler.

2 Place new rear muffler (9a) with plug connection exactly over the removed exhaust system and mark length of pipe of new rear muffler on the removed exhaust system
3 Cut through the pipe 80 mm from the marking (tolerance minus 10 mm) in direction of rear muffler so as to ensure an insertion depth of 70 - 80 mm
- If center muffler faulty, the center and rear muffler unit must be replaced complete

4 Install in reverse sequence
- Use exhaust pipe clamp (7/2)

NOTE: When attaching the exhaust system, ensure that the projection "a" of the bracket at the rear muffler is not more than 3 - 5 mm at the rubber mount (18) (see fig.) when exhaust is cold.
