Removing, Installing Chain Tensioner

Removal
1 Remove top part of air cleaner
2 Remove compressor, install
- Engine 111 with supercharger

3 Position piston of cylinder 1 to 20 degrees after ignition TDC
- Rotate engine at the crankshaft.

NOTE: At 20 degrees after ignition TDC of cylinder 1 the timing chain cannot jump across at the camshaft gears when the chain tensioner is removed.

- To check whether cylinder 1 is at 20 degrees after ignition TDC, take off oil filler cap (25). The lobes of the inlet cams (arrow) of cylinder 1 must be facing up at an angle.

4 Cover over alternator
- e.g. with clean rag

5 Slacken end piece (1) one turn
6 Remove chain tensioner (14) complete

CAUTION: If the complete chain tensioner is slackened, it must be removed, disassembled and re-assembled, as described.

Installation
7 Install chain tensioner (14)
6 Check for leaks with engine running.
