Repairing Floating Caliper On Front Axle
Removing, installing
1 Removing and installing front brake caliper
2 Remove floating caliper (34) from caliper support (33)
Disassemble/assemble
3 Carefully press out piston (47) using compressed air; remove piston with piston-rotating pliers if necessary
NOTE:
- Model 202.033/093, model 208.374 and model 210.072 with CODE 957 E 50 AMG 210.074/274 are fitted with a 2-piston floating caliper.
- If piston is rusted tight (47), replace floating caliper (34).
- Installation: Coat cylinder bore with brake fluid.
4 Remove dust cap (45) from floating caliper (34)
NOTE: Installation: Put dust cap (45) over piston (47) and insert into cylinder bore together with piston. Push in piston using both hands. Ensure correct seating.
CAUTION: Floating caliper and repair kit must be from same manufacturer.
5 Remove piston seal (50) from the groove in the cylinder bore.
NOTE: Installation: Coat new piston seal (50) with brake fluid.
CAUTION: Floating caliper (34) and repair kit must be from same manufacturer.
6 Check piston (47) and cylinder bore of floating caliper (34), and replace if necessary
CAUTION: Notes on damage to piston or cylinder bore on fixed or floating caliper.
- Test values for front axle floating caliper
7 Remove and replace plastic guide bushings (34f)
8 Assemble in reverse order
