Front Door Window Regulator: Service and Repair



72-181 Removal And Installation Of Window Lift








Commercially Available Tools:











Removal, installation
1 Remove air duct and door loudspeaker. Pull off door foil.
2 Open crank window so that the screws on the window lift rail are accessible through the door cutout at the bottom.







3 Screw out screws (3 each) on window lift rail and nuts (2 each) on sliding rail (arrows).







4 Close crank window and clamp in place.
5 Drill off rivet heads (3 each) for fastening window lift, use 7 mm bit (arrows).







6 Disconnect electrical cables at cable connector and expose cable.







7 Extend window lift on inside door panel (2 hooks on base plate and 2 threaded bolts on sliding rail) and remove through installation opening at bottom.







8 Remove remaining pieces of rivets in window lift or out of door shaft.







9 Insert window lift into inside door panel together with sliding rail.







10 Fasten window lift on inside door panel with rivets part No. 002 990 02 97 (3 each) and rivet pliers.







11 Screw nuts (2 each) onto threaded bolts on sliding rail; tighten rear nut with slight pressure downward.







12 Lower crank window and position in window lift rail together with retaining rail (3 tabs) and fasten.







13 Route electrical cables and connect at cable connector so that colors match.
14 Install crank window (72-195).
15 Glue on door foil, replaced damaged door foils.







16 Screw on air duct and door loudspeaker and connect.
17 Install door liner.
