AR32.20-P-0230A Remove/Install Rear Spring



Removing And Installing Rear Spring







DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


NOTE: Springs; general background information.

1 Raise vehicle.
2 Remove rear-suspension switch for rollover bar.
3 Remove track control arm shield (72c).
4 Remove transverse link (69).

NOTE: Installation: Replace self-locking bolt (69a, 69b).

5 Unsnap wire for brake-pad wear indicator from track control arm (72) (arrows).
- Vehicles with ASR Code 471

CAUTION: Installation: Ensure that wiring harness is properly routed

6 Install clamping plates (01b, 01c).

7 Raise track control arm (72).
- Raise until the rear halfshaft is almost completely horizontal.
8 Install spring compressor (01a).

DANGER:
- Risk of injury from jamming or bruises when working on springs or spring bosses which are tensioned
- Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally shield off hazardous area if necessary.
- Inspect special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection).
- Wear protective gloves.


9 Compress rear spring.
10 Release track control arm (72).

CAUTION: Installation: Replace self-locking nut (72b), installing with the rear halfshaft in a virtually horizontal attitude.

11 Remove rear spring (73) with rubber bushing (74).

NOTE: After replacing the rear spring or rubber bushing, Check and correct headlamp adjustment

12 Reverse the removal sequence to install.
