Detaching And Attaching Lower Steering Shaft




Detaching


Component Identification, Part 1:






1 Disconnect lower steering shaft (80a) from the splines of the upper steering shaft (70g) as far as the stop on the locking ring (80d).
2 Remove locking ring (80d) from the upper steering shaft (70g).
3 Remove lower steering shaft (80a).

Attaching


Component Identification, Part 2:






4 Install torsion spring (80e) with the offset end of the winding in the flange (arrow).
Screw tensioning nut (80f) onto the flange until there is a distance of approx. 3 - 4 mm between the flange and tensioning nut.

Connect lower steering shaft (80a) with upper steering shaft (70g)

5 Turn the clamping nut (80) anti-clockwise against the force of the torsion spring until the lower steering shaft (80a) can be pushed on.


NOTE: The lug (arrow) on the upper thrust ring (reset cam for the combination switch) and the milled recess (arrow) for the fixing bolt of the steering coupling on the lower steering shaft must be in the same position.

6 Push lower steering shaft (80a) onto the splines of the upper steering shaft (70g) until the locking ring (80d) can be inserted between the flange of the steering coupling and the flexible disk in the groove of the upper steering shaft (70g).
