Yaw Rate Sensor: Description and Operation

Task
To record the rotary motion of the vehicle about the perpendicular axis (skid motion).






Function
A steel hollow cylinder (measuring element, b) is made to vibrate at a set frequency by means of piezo elements. 4 pairs of these piezo elements are attached to the cylinder opposite each other. The vibration patterns occurring between the piezo elements shift depending on the rotary motion of the vehicle. These shifts are recorded as a measure of the yaw rate of the vehicle.
