91-630 Removing And Installing Emergency Tensioning Retractor (ETR)







Removal, Installation







Attention: Pay attention to safety precautions for airbag, side airbag and emergency tensioning retractor and to the replacement instructions for seat belts.

1 Press trim off seat frame and remove (arrow).







2 Unscrew bolt at the belt buckle (arrow).
Tightening torque: 40 Nm.







3 Detach cable for belt lock at buckle (arrow).

Models up to approx. 06/93 and (USA)
Detach electric cable at seat frame (arrow).

4 Take belt buckle off seat frame.







Installation note
Attach the end of the cable for the belt lock to the belt buckle so that it engages in the cable eye in the driver pin (arrows).







Installation note
Ensure the threaded nut in the seat frame (arrow) is correctly installed when attaching the belt buckle and the belt reversing fitting.







5 Expose cable at the seat frame (arrows).
6 Raise head restraint adjusting device fully.







7 Unscrew bolt (arrow) at the top belt reversing fitting.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm







8 Unscrew bolt at the belt inertia reel (arrow).
Tightening torque: 40 Nm







Installation note
Ensure that the lock in the backrest frame (arrow) is properly positioned when installing the belt inertia reel.
The bolt for the belt inertia reel must be replaced after being removed, or coated with belt locking fluid.







Models up to approx. 06/93 and (USA)
Unplug connector at the belt inertia reel (arrow).







10 Unplug connector at the ETR squib (arrow).
11 Take belt inertia reel out of the backrest frame.
12 Install parts in the reverse order.
13 After installing, perform diagnosis as specified in Diagnosis Manual Body.
