Front Seat Belt with Tensioner (ETR), Removal and Installation
Pay attention to safety precautions for Airbag, Side Airbag and Emergency Tensioning Retractors, and to the Seat Belt Replacement Regulations.
Preliminary work (To be done prior to beginning removal procedure below.):
- Front Seat removed.
- Side covering on backrest frame removed.
- Covering on rear of front seat backrest removed.
- Side covering on outside of seat cushion frame removed.
- Covering on upper belt guide fitting removed.
Installation Notes
First feed control cable through at top of backrest frame when installing the automatic belt retractor. It is essential to ensure that the control cable is positioned correctly when installing. Do not damage or kink control cable.
Install automatic belt retractors together with plastic plate in backrest frame and ensure that the arresting mechanism is seated properly in the backrest frame (arrow).
After disassembly the screw for the automatic belt retractor must be replaced or coated with screw securing agent.
The control cable end for the belt lock on the belt buckle must be hooked so that it engages in the pull eye in the drive pin (arrows). For this purpose insert a locking tongue or push the ejector in the belt buckle to the corresponding position with a plastic wedge.
When fastening the belt buckle and upper belt guide fitting ensure that the threaded nut (arrow) is correctly positioned in the seat frame.

Removal, Installation
1 Press off covering and remove (arrow).
2 Unscrew screw on belt buckle (arrow). Tightening torque: 40 Nm.
3 Unhook control cable for belt lock on belt buckle, for this purpose insert locking tongue and expose electrical lead on seat frame (arrow).
4 Remove belt buckle.
5 Expose control cable on backrest (arrow).
6 Move head restraint adjustment mechanism up against stop.
7 Unscrew screw (arrow) on upper belt guide fitting. Tightening torque: 25 Nm.
8 Unscrew screw on automatic belt retractor (arrow). Tightening torque: 40 Nm.
9 Remove connector from automatic belt retractor (arrow).
10 Pull connector off of emergency tensioning retractor squib (arrow).
11 Remove automatic belt retractor from backrest frame together with plastic plate.
12 Reinstall in opposite order; observe installation notes.
