- with CODE (498) Japanese version

After the rescue center (police, fire department, etc.) has received an EMERGENCY CALL a radio connection is completed to the vehicle to communicate with the vehicle passengers or persons involved. This allows rescue measures to be started depending on the actual severity of the accident.
The radio traffic between the vehicle and the responsible rescue center is accomplished via the vehicle telephone system. This is accomplished with code telephone antenna, the 348a via the hands-free system, the and the E-CALL control module (A35/8) CTEL transmitter/receiver (A35).

With code the 349 via the telephone antenna, hands-free system and the E-CALL control module (A35/8)

With code 349 the CTEL transmitter/receiver is integrated into the emergency call system control module.

The telephone antenna depends on the model
Model 129: Rod antenna (A28)
Models 202, 208.3, 210, 220: Telephone antenna(A2/49a1)
Models 203, 215: Telephone antenna(A2/22)

If the telephone antenna no longer functions as a result of an accident it is automatically switched over to the EMERGENCY CALL substitute antenna (A2/50).
The voice connection is accomplished via the hands-free system, however, with a microphone installed especially for the E-CALL system On vehicles with code 348a the hands-free system microphone (B25), the hands-free loudspeaker and the CTEL transmitter/receiver are integrated in the hands-free system. On vehicles with code 349 the microphone of the hands-free system (B25) , the emergency call system loudspeaker and the E-CALL control module (A35/8) are integrated in the hands-free system.

It is not always necessary to complete the voice connection using the hands-free system loudspeakers; it can also be completed with the system's own loudspeakers (depending on model) (emergency call loudspeakers)

When the voice connection is completed the EMERGENCY CALL is also terminated.
