AR15.40-P-5011EA Check Charging Current of Alternator

Checking Charging Current Of Generator

Shown On Model 202:

Inspecting
1 Check regulating voltage of generator
2 Connect multimeter (003) according to connection diagram

NOTE: Connect DC clip-on probe (065) via all connecting cables

See "Commercially Available Tools" given below.

3 Connect volt-ampere tester with load resistance (079) according to connection diagram

See "Commercially Available Tools" given below.

4 Read off charging current at model plate of generator (G2).

NOTE: Apply the valid test values for the generator according to the charging current.

DANGER: Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury from bruises and burns if you hold your hand into engine when it is started or when it is running.
- Secure vehicle to prevent it moving off by itself.
- Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes.
- Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

5 Start engine
6 Check charging current

NOTE: Connect battery (G1) to volt / ampere tester with integrated load resistor (003). Change load resistance until the maximum charging current is achieved. The regulating voltage must not fall below 12.7 volts.

See "Test Values of Generator" given below.

Charging current below specified value:
1. Check diodes of generator.
2. Replace generator (if diodes are defective)

7 Switch off engine
8 Disconnect multi meter (003) with DC clip-on probe (065)
9 Disconnect volt / ampere tester with load resistor (079)
