Expansion/Freeze Plug: Service and Repair



Replace Core Hole Plugs In Crankcase






Remove

DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.


1 Drain coolant
2 Remove attached parts in the area of the leaking core hole plug

NOTE: Engine 111 refer to Location of core hole plug

3 Knock in core hole plug sufficiently on one side e.g. using a screwdriver, until it has turned
- see Fig. C

4 Pull out core hole plug at the collar
- see Fig. D

Install
5 Thoroughly clean core hole

NOTE: The adhesive surfaces must be free of oil, water and rust, see fig. E (arrow).

- Observe manufacturers instructions!

6 Spray sealing surface with activator
7 Coat core hole with sealant
8 Insert new core hole plug with drift punch (Fig F)

NOTE: The sealant must be allowed to harden for about 45 minutes before pouring in coolant.

9 Install attached parts
10 Pour in coolant

11 Run engine and inspect cooling system for leaks.
