Airbag, Side Airbag and Emergency Tensioning Retractor Units may be transported or shipped only in the original packaging.

Transporting Airbag and Side Airbag Units in Passenger Cars
It is prohibited to transport such units in the passenger compartment of a car.

The packed units must always be stowed for transportation in the trunk (boot) or luggage compartment of the car in such a way that they cannot slip.


Transporting Airbag and Side Airbag Units by Rail or Road
It is not permitted to ship airbag or side airbag units by rail express parcel service.

In Germany the possibility exists of combining airbag or side airbag units with other dangerous goods in a consignment. In this case, the airbag and side airbag units are exempted from the Dangerous Goods Regulations as a consequence of Exemption No. 46 (Annex 2).

Conditions for exemption:
- The net weight of the explosive of each unit transported must not be more than 5 kg (corresponds to 55 driver airbag units or 20 passenger airbag units).
- The items shipped must not be identified with a dangerous goods label; it is necessary to inscribe them.

Always keep to the quantity permitted by the exemption. If this quantity is exceeded, the airbag and side airbag units are then subject to complicated processing as dangerous goods in conformity with the Regulations for Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Road (GGVS).

Emergency Tensioning Retractor Units
Shipping emergency tensioning retractors by rail or express parcel services is permissible. According to an expert opinion of the Federal Ministry of Labour, emergency tensioning retractor units in the prescribed original packaging are not dangerous goods.

Emergency tensioning retractor units must not be packed together with other dangerous goods or normal goods in an exterior packaging. No restrictions apply in respect of consigning such units together with other goods.

Seats With Installed Emergency Tensioning Retractor Units
No restrictions apply to transporting seats with integral emergency tensioning retractor units.

No inscriptions or dangerous goods label is required.

It is possible to consign such units with other goods.
