BINDER HEATING OVEN
Your Binder Heating Oven is necessary to perform internal repairs on engines 112 and 113 such as removing and installing rocker arm shafts. New production and assembly methods for engines 112 and 113 include rocker arm shafts that are inserted, rather than bolted, into the camshaft bearing bridge. To remove rocker arm shafts from engines 112 and 113, the camshaft bearing bridge must be brought to a uniform temperature of 110 - 120°C. Due to the material composition of engines 112 and 113, heating must take place in the temperature controlled environment of the Binder Heating Oven.
Note:
Be sure to locate your Binder Heating Oven in a suitable area of your workshop; preferably on a sturdy table or work bench. Do not place the heating oven on the floor or an area where it is likely to be damaged.
Caution:
DO NOT use heating plates, hot air equipment or localized external heat sources (oxyacetylene torches) in lieu of the Binder Heating Oven to heat 112 and 113 engines. IMPROPER HEATING METHODS MAY RESULT IN ANNEALED VALVE TRAIN MATERIAL (i.e. VALVE TRAIN MATERIAL HARDNESS MAY BE COMPROMISED).

Drop shipment was arranged by MBUSA via the Standard Service Equipment Program at a special cost of $1,499.00 plus freight. As with all Standard Service Equipment Program shipments, delivery and billing is arranged through Dealer Equipment and Services (DES). Upon receipt of this bulletin, any unpaid invoices will be billed to your parts account as MB Special Tool part number 900 589 06 05 00 at the regular cost of $1,670.00 plus freight.

Soon following this bulletin, you will receive a Special Tool (part number 900 589 06 05 01) mailing containing an MBUSA Special Tool number label and a UL label for your Binder Heating Oven. Included will be instructions specifying where to affix the labels (see the sample). Please follow the instructions carefully.

Please affix the enclosed MBUSA Special Tool Number label and UL label to your Binder Heating Oven (Special Tool 900 589 06 05 00) in the specified area illustrated below. Figure 2 shows a close-up view of Figure 1
