General Function of Heated Seats

The seat frame consists of five extruded magnesium parts with black enamel finish connected to one another with bolts. The automatic belt retractor with emergency tensioning retractor as well as the belt height adjustment and head restraint are located in the backrest strut.

All adjustment functions of the driver's and passenger seats are electrically controlled. For this purpose five electric motors are integrated into the seat frame. The only manual adjustment is the head restraint angle.

Scope of electrical adjustment functions
- Forward/backward adjustment
- Height adjustment-front
- Height adjustment-rear
- Backrest adjustment
- Head restraint adjustment coupled with seat belt height adjustment

An inductive proximity switch for limitation of the adjustment is installed to prevent a collision between the backrest and top compartment wall at large adjustment paths and high backrest inclination. When the seat is moved back or lowered and the backrest approaches the top compartment, the backrest is first moved to the upright position and the entire seat is moved forward as required.

The proximity switch is installed in the upper area of the top compartment wall. The switch for electrical seat adjustment installed as a standard feature is located in the door paneling (memory circuit as special equipment).

The electrically adjustable belt height adjustment is coupled with the height adjustment for the head restraint (adjustment approx. 60 mm).

The backrest can be unlocked via control cables and a mechanically actuated lever on the side of the backrest. An electronic monitoring unit ensures that the backrest is locked to the seat frame. When the backrest is not locked, an automatic locking aid is activated in order to connect the backrest and seat frame with one another. If this connection is not completed, a warning light flashes in the instrument cluster for approx. 5 seconds initially and then comes on continuously during driving operation. Initially a twenty to twenty-five second intermediate acoustic warning signal is given by a warning buzzer installed below the seat. Both signals are activated regardless of whether the belt is used or the seat is occupied.

The seat and backrest cushions can be screwed off with the seat frame installed and removed from the mounts. This allows many operations to be completed on the adjustment mechanism without removing the seat.

The seat is anchored positively on the outside on the longitudinal frame member. The seat is screwed to the vehicle floor with a total of eight T40 Torx bolts (M8 x 18 and micro-encapsulated thread).

In the event of a failure in the electric adjustment device, emergency actuation is possible by manually turning the drive shafts.

The seat control module and connectors are located on the vehicle floor below the seat cushion. The connectors are coded to prevent mix-up.
The seat weight is 35 to 38 kg depending on the equipment.
