Remove/Install Instrument Panel
Removal and Installation of PanelPreliminary work:
- Negative terminal on battery disconnected
- Steering wheel removed
- Instrument cluster removed
- Combination switch removed
- Molding at side of windshield removed
- Glove compartment removed
- Cover below panel removed
- Cover on gearshift lever removed
- Radio removed
- Cover on center console removed
- Spectacles compartment removed
- Side and Center air nozzles removed
Removal and Installation
1. Remove air duct (1). Screw out screw (2) and remove clip (3).
2. Disconnect plugs for rotary light switch, headlamp range control and bulb socket for rotary light switch symbol (arrows).
3. Remove actuating mechanism for steering wheel adjustment, for this purpose pull off knob, screw out screw (4), slide cover (5) up and remove.
4. Screw out screw (6) and remove housing (7). Do not unhook control cable.
5. Remove control cable (8) for parking brake on release handle and remove handle (9).
6. Unclip cover on wooden trim strip at side (arrows).
7. Screw out screw (arrow).
8. Remove wooden trim strip (10), for this purpose extend attachment hook in area of instrument cluster.
9. Screw out screws (11 and 12).
10. Remove knurled switch strip (13), and disconnect plugs and control cables for heater.
11. Remove air duct (14) and clip (15).
12. Screw out screws (arrows) (8 mm) at top of center console.
13. Screw out screws (arrows) for mounting panel (10 mm).
14. Lift panel over center console (arrows) and air connections at top, then pull back on passenger side and move out at steering column and ignition lock.
15. Unclip electrical wires on instrument panel, drivers side (arrow).
16. Remove panel.

Support Points For Instrument Panel:
Installation Note Adjust support points so that top is even with tinting on windshield and coincides with wooden trim strip on door cover.
17. First insert panel on the front wall pillar on the dnver's side moving over steering column, ignition lock, air connections at top and mounting flange on center console.
18. Align or expose insulating mats (16 and 17), electrical wires and control cables.
19. Screw in mounting screws (7 each, arrows) and tighten.
20. Plug in connectors for rotary light switch, headlamp range control and bulb socket for rotary light switch symbol.
21. Install air ducts on left and right.
22. Install clip on front wall pillar.
23. Install knurled switch strip. Attach control cables for heater and plugs (arrows).
24. Install wooden trim strip.
25. Continue to reinstall in opposite order.
26. Perform function check.
