Cooling System Drain and Refill
Release Pressure1. Remove bottom engine compartment panel.
2. Turn cap (1) anti-clockwise as far as detent 1, to release pressure.
WARNING: Risk of scalding. cap (1) must not be opened unless coolant temperature below 90° C..
3. Turn further to detent 2, and remove.
Draining Coolant At Radiator
1. Fit hose (inner diameter 12 mm) onto connection (arrow).
2. Open drain plug (3).
3. Drain coolant into suitable vessel.
Drain Coolant At Crankcase
1. Fit hose (inner diameter 14 mm) onto drain plug (4).
2. Open drain plug (4)
3. Drain coolant into suitable vessel.
Coolant Capacity
Cooling System With Heater: 14.5 liters
Cooling System Anti-Corrosion/Anti-Freeze Concentration:
50% By Volume: 7.25 liters
55% By Volume: 8.0 liters
Pouring In Coolant, Bleeding System
1. Pour in coolant up to separation between top part of expansion reservoir (black) and bottom part (transparant).
2. Switch heater on.
3. Warm up at moderate revs until coolant thermostat opens.
4. On models with auxiliary heater, bleed auxiliary heater.
5. On all models, top up coolant level to marking or to separation line on expansion reservoir.
6. Close filler neck on expansion reservoir from a coolant temperature of about 60 - 80° C.
7. Test for coolant resistance to low temperatures.
8. Check cooling system for leaks.
Coolant Composition Anti-Freeze Protection:
^ Down To -37°C:
50% by volume water + 50 % by volume anti-corrosion/anti-freeze agent
A higher concentration is only of practical use at lower ambient temperatures.
^ Down to -45°C:
55% by volume anti-corrosion/anti-freeze agent offers anti-freeze protection down to approximately -45° C.
CAUTION: More than 55% by volume anti-corrosion/anti-freeze agent reduces the anti-freeze protection and impairs heat dissipation.
Disposal Of Coolants
^ The anti-corrosion/anti-freeze agents approved in the Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Service Products are biodegradable substances.
^ Observe national legislation and local waste water regulations.
Anti-Corrosion/Anti-Freeze Agent
^ Anti-corrosion/anti-freeze agent performs the following tasks:
- ensuring adequate corrosion and cavitation protection for all components
- providing anti-freeze protection
- increasing the boiling point
^ Use only approved anti-corrosion/anti-freeze agents.
Water
^ Use water which is clean and not too hard. Drinking water frequently, but not always, satisfies requirements. The content of dissolved substances in the water may be of significance for the occurrence of corrosion. If the water quality is not known, distilled or fully desalinated water should be used.
