Remove/Install Headliner
Preliminary work:
Panelling on roof frame removed and panelling on B-pillar removed (end fitting on seat belt not removed) Service and Repair
Headliner on sliding roof removed Service and Repair
Make-up mirror removed.
Handles
remove.
Reading light on headliner
remove.
Panelling on rear pillar, top
unclip and support against rear window with foam rubber pad (Fig. 1).
Headliner
unhook at rear window starting at one edge of headliner (Fig. 1).
Clips (item 1, Fig. 3)
press outward through openings in pop-up/sliding roof frame (Fig. 2) with screwdriver and lower headliner.
Clips in opening for make-up mirror
press off of bracket (Fig. 4).
Backrest on driver's and passenger seat
move back.
Headliner
unhook from pop-up/sliding roof frame from front and lay down on rear shelf.
Headliner (front section)
guide through open rear side window and remove through passenger door in direction of arrow (Fig. 5).
Removal note
On Model W 140 without tilting/sliding roof it is necessary to remove the headliner through the passenger door. For this purpose remove the bolt on the door retainer to obtain additional free space for removing the headliner.
On Model V 140 both headliner versions can be removed through the rear door.
Shop-made tool: Hook
Installation
1 Lay headliner into vehicle.
2 Install bolt on door retainer.
3 Hook headliner onto tilting/sliding roof frame with retaining bar (arrow).
4 Attach clips (item 1) by pressing up on headliner in openings on tilting/sliding roof frame.
NOTE: Do not press in separately because otherwise headliner can be damaged in this area. Use piece of wood to press up.
5 Press clips into opening for make-up mirror onto bracket.
6 Hook headliner in at rear window with hook (shop-made) while pressing headliner up with one hand.
7 Install reading light on headliner.
8 Install make-up mirror.
9 Install panelling on rear pillar. Service and Repair
10 Install handles.
11 Install panelling on B-pillar. Service and Repair
12 Install panelling on roof frame. Service and Repair
