The task of the electronic control of the Speed-sensitive Power Steering (SPS) (integrated in the Electronic Traction System (ETS), Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) or Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control module) is to adjust a set hand force (K) at the steering wheel corresponding to the respective vehicle speed.

The vehicle speed determined by the ETS, ASR or ESP control module is assigned a specified current in a performance map.

This is then adjusted in the SPS P-valve (proportional solenoid valve) and thus influences the oil flow (hydraulic reaction) within the rack and-pinion steering.

The SPS P-valve is actuated in cycles.

The current control results from the pulse width modulation of this cycling.
