The Speed-sensitive Power Steering (SPS) increasingly assists the manual force at the steering wheel from a speed less than 100 km/h (62 mph) until the vehicle is stationary. At speeds greater than 100 km/h (62 mph) the steering effort assistance is as on conventional power steering.
The basic function of speed-sensitive power steering includes the conventional power assistance of the rack-and-pinion steering.
Vehicle speed serves as a parameter which with the aid of electronics adapts the hydraulic reaction via the SPS P-valve (Y10) to the requirement in the speed range of 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph).
The electronic control program for SPS is included in the control module of the respective traction system, as the vehicle is equipped.
