NOTE: Right-hand thread!
4 Remove fan shroud (2).
- On models fitted with suction fan, first of all separate the plug connection of the suction fan.
5 Remove engine trim panel
6 Remove resonance pipe (13) with resonance body (14)
- Separate plug connection of hot film mass air flow sensor (HFM-SFI) for this step, and unbolt resonance pipe at cylinder head cover.
NOTE: The resonance pipe is attached at the rear at the intake manifold with a plastic plate.
CAUTION: Do not damage plastic plate.
7 Remove oil pan bottom section (3)
CAUTION: Installation: Application of sealing compound to oil pan bottom section
8 Separate electric cable at oil level sensor (B40)
9 Remove oil pipe (4) from dipstick
- Remove one bolt at cylinder head cover!
Installation: Replace sealing ring!
10 Take off front wheels.
11 Remove exhaust (9)
12 Remove front drive shafts (5)
- Detach front drive shafts from front drive gear for this step!
CAUTION: Do not damage seals of drive shafts!
13 Remove intermediate shaft (6)
- Remove circlip on outside at bearing!
14 Remove front axle gear (7)
15 Unscrew bolts (8) of front engine mounts (12) at front axle carrier (16)
16 Fit on engine supporting frame
17 Raise engine
CAUTION: Ensure that the engine and its attached parts do not touch the body.
- Do not overtension coolant lines!
18 Support front axle carrier (16) with inspection pit or assembly lift.
19 Unscrew bolt (10) from steering coupling
CAUTION: Installation: Replace nut and bolt.
20 Unbolt fixture (17) of ATF line (18) at front axle carrier (16)
21 Unscrew bolts (15) at front axle carrier (16)
CAUTION: The bolts (15) are self-tapping; pay attention to the following procedure:
- Never retap thread in longitudinal member.
- Replace bolts.
- Use only genuine bolts (4 in total).
- Do not position bolts at an angle when screwing in.
- Do not use an impact screwdriver.
- Pay attention to tightening torque.
22 Lower front axle carrier (16)
NOTE: Installation:
- Contact surfaces of front axle carrier to longitudinal member must be cleaned and flat.
- Insert locating pins (arrows) at front axle carrier into the holes in the longitudinal member when fitting on.
23 Remove oil pan top section (11)
- Take out oil pan to the front in direction of travel for this step; rotate crankshaft slightly, if necessary. Push the ATF lines at the automatic transmission slightly to the side.
NOTE: Installation:
- Observe different bolt lengths and bolt diameters!
- Bolt diagram of oil pan
- Information on application of sealant to oil pan
24 Install in the reverse order
DANGER:
- Risk of accident. Accidents may result if the vehicle starts off unintentionally with the engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns.
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving. Wear dosed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.
25 Run engine and inspect for leaks.
26 Read diagnostic trouble code memory and erase
- Stored faults, which can result from removed lines or a simulation during installation or test work, have to be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing the work.
27 Check chassis alignment, align if necessary.
