Purpose and Benefits (ETS)

The "Electronic Traction System" (ETS) is an automatic system for improving the start-up and acceleration capabilities particularly on roads with varying traction conditions. The spinning of the 4 drive wheels is limited or controlled by a brake intervention. It replaces the locking differential in the front and rear axle and in the transfer case. The engine is not manipulated.

The basic components for ABS and ETS are consolidated in the ETS hydraulic unit.

The ABS and ETS circuits are also combined in the ETS electronic module.

Brake Torque Control Circuit
ABS prevents the wheels from locking up when the brakes are applied and thereby ensures that the vehicle remains steerable and stable during deceleration.

ETS prevents the driven wheels from spinning when driving off and accelerating within prescribed speed ranges.

Advantages
^ Improved start-up and acceleration capabilities resulting from increased traction on roads with varying traction conditions.

^ Improved stability in curves.

^ A warning lamp signals when one of the wheel speeds does not coincide with the vehicle speed, warning the driver that the vehicle is approaching the physical limits for safe driving.
